Growth: Milk Doctrines

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation — if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2-3 ESV)

The Bible in effect says that Milk Doctrines are eternally life saving truths for people who are serious about their faith. They are actually fundamental for our whole lifetime, while being only part of what God wants to reveal to His people. Milk teaching only forms the very basic life sustaining teachings and principles concerning spiritual life, they are not sufficient for a believer to finish with and then proceed in life without deeper learning or effort. The Bible uses pictures of milk, bread and meat to analogise that 'babies need milk’ and 'children and adults need meat’. Also, all need the bread of life, and need to go on to learn the deeper things of God. It is sadly evident from both Paul’s teaching and the condition of some churches today that many never transcend milk teaching.

Milk Doctrines:

1) Repentance from dead works: Heb. 6:1

Understand that you were once living a life of death.

2) Faith: Rom. 10:17

Trust and believe that if you reach out to God he will reach out to you again.

3) Baptism: Mark 6:16

Baptism provides a power charged 'line in the sand' and public witness of commitment to God.

4) Laying of hands: Acts 19:4-6

You should pray and heal and be healed (only in Jesus name) by the laying on of hands.

5) Resurrection of the dead: 1 Cor. 15:42

It is essential that you learn about the life to come.

6) Eternal Judgement

Uncover the Bible truths about eternal judgement.

"Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God" (Heb 6:1 ESV)

“To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast?" (Isaiah 28:9 ESV)

"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able. For you are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?" (1 Cor 3:1-2)

We wash our teeth, MOT our cars, go to the doctor for a check up, yet many people happily assume church attendance is an accurate source of Bible truths and a salvation ticket.

Going to Church does not ensure salvation or accurate teaching. When you meet your maker it will be about you, not your pastor, or local church. Do you know your basic (creedal) doctrines?
