RAMM presents the first ever dedicated display of Wellcome’s sexually associated art/artefacts: 5th April to 29th June 2014
This is a moderately amusing exhibition revealing the variety of diversities and complexities of the way in which sex has been understood and misunderstood across a range of cultures. While admirable attempt, the display falls short on quality and quantity no pun intended. However, the exhibition does presents the viewer with a variety of diversities and cultural practices and delicately asks us the viewer to reference our own attitudes toward censorship and display, the threshold between childhood and adulthood, control of sexuality, fertility and contraception, pleasure vis power dynamics. To conclude, the exhibition makes a small attempt to open the mind of the viewer to reflect on a modern sexual paradigm from a historical juxtaposition.
