Angels

Messenger

An angel means messenger either a human a supernatural being or an unclean spirit* (from the Greek ἄγγελος ángelos, “messenger”. In art and culture, supernatural angels are often depicted in humanoid form with wings to illustrate their swift power and extraordinary movements. Halos around their heads depict their holiness. The Bible there is mention of wings and bright glowing emanations.

The theological study of angels is known as "angelology". Angels are either benevolent (good) or Machiavellian (evil) depending on whether or not they were part of the ancient rebellion against God, they work as intermediaries between God or Satan. Except that the fallen angels are currently locked up until the day of judgement because of their rebellion and their corruption and intermixing with man on the earth before Noah’s flood.

The Bible says that (benevolent) angels protect us and work for us for the glory of God, they are called ministering spirits. Even today many people will talk of a guardian angel or an angelic force that helped them in a serious situation. We can even ask angels to help us and be very thankful for them, however, God forbids the worship of created beings.

Angels appear in human form and generally in pairs. They eat with humans and hold their hands to led them. They are powerful in physical combat. Angels do not marry and are referred to in the masculine form. Importantly Angel’s ministry is to serve, encourage, enlighten, guide and empower those who will inherit salvation. Angels are actual organised team playing eternal beings with non-omnipresent locality. They have emotions; they care and can make choices good and bad. They have a physical reality that is beyond our physical reality.

Conversely demons are 'physically powerless’ and seek to indwell in people for their power to act in the world’s sphere. They seek ‘oiketerion'  (habitation) desperately desire a place, a body.

Satan?

Satan is an Angel; he was once called Lucifer, meaning light.

The Bible tells us that he was the highest angel created by God. When he rebelled against God, he tried to become more powerful than his creator and was expelled from Heaven (another dimension you could say in modern language).

So in effect, Satan is an alien and his fallen angels (a third of the heavenly angels) could also be described as aliens who invaded earth. In Genesis 6:4 their is a complex indicator that many theologians believe point to a clear account (with the book of Enoch) about fallen angels having sex with humans and producing the mythological beings that we hear of in many ancient religious writings. Like giants and hybrids.

Names of a few Angels

Angels are listed over two hundred of times in the Bible* this list is from Angelology sources, some are from extra-biblical tradition. It is a sin to worship angels as they are co-workers with us for God’s glory (*including Apocrypha).

Angels mentioned inside the Canon*:

Michael (who is like God?), kindness of God *

[Dan 10:13 "one of the chief princes" Dan 10:21 "No one supports me against them except Michael" Dan 12:1 Great prince Jude 1:9 Archangel Michael Rev 12:7 War in heaven against Satan]

Gabriel (archangel) (the strength of God), performs acts of justice and power

Raphael (God Heals), God's healing force

"I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ready and enter before the glory of God" (Tobit 12:15; NRSV)

Multiple listings, more than any other angel.

Abaddon (Heb) Apollyon (Grk) (Destroyer) both an angel and the place of the bottomless pit.

"And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.” (Revelation 9:11).

A small example of angels mentioned outside the Western Canon:

Uriel (God is my light), leads us to destiny and walked with Enoch

Samael (the severity of God), angel of death cf. Malach HaMavet (the angel of death)

Sandalphon (bringing together), battles Samael and brings mankind together. (The substantiation for Sandalphon is not as clear as other angels and may instead refer to the body of Elijah in heaven, the conceptual twin brother of Metatron or Enoch).

Jophiel (Beauty of God), holds a flaming sword and punishes those who transgress against God expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden

Metatron (possibly meaning "keeper of the watch", "guardian", or "he who sits behind the throne of Heaven"), God's heavenly scribe recording the actions done in Earth and Heaven. (The substantiation for Metatron is not as clear as other angels and may instead refer to the body of Enoch in heaven).
