Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. Genesis 1:26
Divine Human?
As human believers, we have the gift of eternal life. God has given us an immortal soul. Our bodies will become translated into an immortal state at the resurrection.
While we carry a reflection of the nature of God in the sense of the 'Genesis creative act' immortality is not divinity, in the same sense that angels are immortal but are not gods.
As humans we only share his reign and His divine nature nowhere in scripture does it say that we will become God, be like God in his ‘generator’ aspects like omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.
Anyone thinking, hoping or imagining to become like God is simply re-shadowing the mind of Lucifer before he fell and became Satan (Isaiah 12:12-14; 2nd Thessalonians 2:3-8). Our teacher and God Jesus took the role of a servant (Philippians 2:5-9). This condition is a manifestation of being overly focused on the incredible gift of empowerment to us by God. Over time this become an unhealthy focus on the 'amazing-ness' of ‘us' rather than God; this is self-idolatry (self-worship). The Isaiah 12:12-14 sin of ‘I’ relates to the Genesis account.
