Resurrection: from the Dead

Three Resurrections?

There are various resurrections of groups or individuals in the Bible, but three in particular are important. The first was a resurrection in Jerusalem at the time of Christ’s Calvary. The second is the rapture, and the third is the final resurrection.

The Bible teaches that we will all be resurrected. This may or may not include a preceeding ‘rapture’ depending on where a person is ‘spiritually' with Christ, furthermore whether you are alive or not at the time of the rapture. Rapture is not to be confused with resurrection though it is a type of resurrection.

Human Resurrection at Calvary

Sometimes misunderstood as the resurrection of Old Testament saints. In fact this mini resurrection was simply a supernatural event that fed into the authenticity of Yeshua. These people were temporarily restored back to a normal life, to continue to live for a while before dying naturally.

Resurrection of Old Testament Saints

Resurrection of the Old Testament saints happens just a fraction of time before the rapture (see below). This duel people resurrection initiates the Marriage Wedding and Supper of the Lamb after which will proceed through to the new system of the Messianic Kingdom.

The wedding ceremony takes place in Heaven (after the Rapture) and before the Second Coming. The actual wedding feast will take place later on earth, straight after the second coming and it is this event that will start the new Messianic Kingdom.

Rapture - resurrection (1 Thes 4:13-18).

It is an exciting reality that there are no more prophecies to be fulfilled before the rapture of Christ's Church: other than political manoeuvres that are either indicative of the end time build up or foundational landmarks that underpin events that will happen after the rapture.

These micro events include many geophysical and socio economic 'perilous times'. These are merely the birth pains of the end times: convulsions of earthquakes, hurricanes, and increase of violence.

The rapture is a seizing up of living believers from the earth before the seven year tribulation begins properly. At the time of rapture there will be a duality of circumstances. As described above there will be the sign of the times - described as birth pains. Secondly it will be business (and culture) as usual. In theological terms this is cited ‘as in the days of Noah’.

This intervention in Luke 17: 26-30 will be a dramatic event. Jesus from clouds of glory will shout "Come up here!" (Rev. 4:1-2). All true Christians will instantly be with Jesus above the earth. (1 Cor. 15: 51-55 and 1 Thes. 4:13-18.)

Literally millions of people will be removed to the Lord and will be taken back to heaven, where He has prepared a place of eternal dwelling (Jn. 14:1-3).

Resurrection of the Unjust

The last resurrection is, "the resurrection of the wicked" (Acts 24:15), and will take place at the end of the millennial reign of Jesus. This is at the Great White Throne Judgment, the judgment of the damned (Revelation 20:11-15).

Anyone who failed to acknowledge and connect with God through faith will be resurrected at this time, regardless of when they lived of died (before or after Calvary). This resurrection also includes the unjust who died during the Tribulation and the Millennium.

There cannot be another resurrection of the righteous at the end of the Millennium, because all those born during the Millennium are already in 'the blessing’ and enjoying supernatural life. They have also accepted Jesus as their Saviour and will live to the end of the Lord's reign (Isaiah 65:19-20). "'As the lifetime of a tree, so shall be the days of My people,'. . . says the Lord" (Isaiah 65:22,25). Life spans during the Millennium will be what they were at the beginning of time, before the flood. URL brand was founded on 3rd July 2006. The site in its current form was created in 2014.
