Judgement is an ongoing reality on earth whoever we are and is to do with either punishment or reward: so judgements come in many different forms. This page broadly and only in basic terms explains the main types of judgement in the Bible. For example, a judgement may or may not involve one’s eternal state. Concerning the scriptures Judgement broadly concerns individuals in debt to God through sin. In a Biblical context this culminates in two divine outcomes, loosely described as heaven or hell: eternal blessing or punishment. However, if we are ‘in Christ’ that is to really be in relationship with the Holy Spirit and not just believe in Him we are free from eternal punishment. Finally, we will see below that while a believer walks in faith, hope and peace before God and saved from hell he or she is still to be judged for works. The Bible quotes in italic give you a flavour of judgement, however please read beneath that to explore the different kinds of judgements.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. (2 Corinthians 5:10 ESV)

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment… (2 Peter 2:4 ESV)

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27 ESV)

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. (Revelation 20:10-12 ESV)

Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41 ESV)

And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day. (Jude 1:16 ESV)

There is some confusion about ‘judgement’, the most basic error is that there is one judgement for everybody. In the scriptures we actually find layers of judgement as 'a rule of life' and different and specific judgements for different dispensations and beings. A general list of Bible Judgement is as follows in chronological order:

The Past Judgements

THE JUDGEMENT OF SATAN AND THE FALLEN ANGELS (Matthew 25:41; Isaiah. 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Revelation 12:3-4)

THE JUDICIAL JUDGEMENT: ALL ARE UNDER SIN (Galatians 3.22, Romans 3.19, 5.12-15)

THE JUDGEMENT TO MORAL DEGENERATION (Romans 1:18-32, Ephesians 4:7-19)

THE JUDGEMENT OF CHRIST FOR THE SIN OF THE WORLD (Isaiah 53:4-6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 3:24-26, 1 John 2:2)

The Present Judgements

THE SELF-JUDGEMENT OF THE BELIEVER [Two judgements Acts 24:15-16] (1 John 1:19; Proverbs 28:13, Hebrews 12:4-11, John 15:1-7, 1 Corinthians 3:14-15, 11:27-32)

THE DISCIPLINE JUDGEMENTS OF GOD (Proverbs 13:24, Hebrews 12:4-11, 1 Corinthians 11:27-32, Psalms 32:3-5, Romans 8:13, 14:1-5, Matthew 7:1-5, (1 Timothy. 3:1-13; Tituts. 1:9-16; Galatians. 6:1-5; 2 Thessalonians. 3:6-15).

The Future Judgements

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what we have done whether good or bad 2 Corinthians 5:10

Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God Romans 14:10

For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father's glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what He has done Matthew 16:17.

(indicating raised finish line): (Revelation 20:11-15 Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:9, Matt. 27:19; John 19:13

THE JUDGEMENTS OF THE TRIBULATION happening at the same time on earth as BEMA in heaven. (Revelation 19)

This is the Judegement of the dead found in Revelation 20:11-15

”Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire". Rev. 20:11-15 ESV
